Channing Tatum: Gambit??

It was announced today that in 2016, Channing Tatum will be playing Gambit.  So besides me, who else is kinda disappointed by this choice??  Don't get me wrong, Channing Tatum has come leaps and bounds when it comes to his acting ability.  His ability to play a dumb jock type (21/22 Jump St, She's the Man) is coming along famously.  And to say that I wasn't excited by his cameo in This is The End is a total lie.

Are his current roles enough to sustain him however?  Granted it is a comic book movie and not as if the role is completely out of his range.  The bigger question is, will he be accepted in this role with this extremely biased community.  Are we looking at another Deadpool/Green Lantern situation that we got out of Ryan Reynolds?  After that whole disaster, I can barely assosicate him with anything else.  Even IMDB has a hard time leaving that one alone. Don't believe me, pull up the site and check for yourself! First film associated is Green Lantern...that's a bad taste that I am not sure he can ever be rid of.

The reality is, who could actually play Gambit though?  Several actors have been brought up in passing conversation but these actors might be something to think about for casting in the future if this movie turns out to be a real stink fest.

Ian Somerhalder

This guy was my personal favorite for Christian Grey (still sad about that one) but his role as Damon on Vampire Diaries makes him a great candidate for Gambit.  Southern gentleman badass anyone?

Theo James

His most recent role was in Divergent but he's rather unknown and besides last years block buster the most notable thing that he has been in that people would recognize him in is Downton Abbey or for all you sci-fi nerds Underworld: Awakening.  These films show that this man can handle any action we throw at him and he's not opposed to getting a little nerdy.

Sam Claflin

Here's another guy who may be interesting prospect.  You will recognize him first and foremost as Finnick Odair, the loveable playboy from the Hunger Games series.  This role alone gives him enough prowess to play the gumbo lovin' mutant.

Jensen Ackles

Now this is one guy who's career has been born and bred in the comic world (Smallville/Supernatural/Batman: Under the Red Hood).  Granted it is has never reached the big screen but definitely an actor that shouldn't be over looked.  His running stint on Supernatural playing Dean Winchester demonstrates the cocky swagger that he could bring to the X-men character. It wouldn't be terrible seeing the man in spandex either.

Alex Pettyfer

This is one actor that I could definitely see more of and is only fitting to pit against his Magic Mike co-star Channing Tatum.  Alex has the potential to have a budding career but certain films have left something to be desired. (I am Number Four/Beastly/Endless Love)  He would definitely be one that looks the part but the dark horse for sure in this race.

Tom Hardy

He's got the attitude, he's got the tattoos, he's got the resume...oh who am I kidding, the man is just pretty to look at and is mainly for me.  However, if they were to do a remake with an actor who has some padding, this would definitely be a great choice. What with his break out role in Inception, his unique portrayal of Bane in Dark Knight rises and his rebel character in Lawless, Gambit may be the next big thing for this man...or maybe I could just look at him some more!
